ABOUT POPCORNING PIGGIES GUINEA PIG RESCUE
PPGPR was established in 2019 and our aim is to make sure unwanted and mistreated guinea pigs find a loving new home where they can enjoy a happy and healthy life. We also help those who have a change in circumstances. Along with this we hand rear a range of animals to help people who are struggling.
We have a small team of volunteers who share their free time with us, ensuring all the animals are kept safe and well with the best care possible.
Our facilites include an isoaltion area and accomodation for around 30 guinea pigs which is used to accomodate the guinea pigs until they find a permanent, forever home.
Our work would not be possible without the genorousity of the public. As a non profit organsition we rely on donations to run. Donaions to the rescue help fund vital things like vet bills, food, hay, shavings and continuing improvements at the rescue.
Meet our team of volunteers
AMY
I'm Amy, I run and own PPGPR. I set up the rescue after i adopted Dash from a pet shop adoption centre. He was a shy, skinny boy i was told he was 'unbondable' and he would always be alone. I worked with him and he came out of his shell but he was still missing something - a friend. He was lonely so i got him neutered which led him to a life surrounded by girls. From that point I knew i had to do somethng and make a difference to more little lives so popcorning piggies began. I absolutley love what i do. Seeing the guinea pigs progress and find forever homes after they have had a rough start is an amazing feeling.
I have always been an animal lover and am currently doing online qualifications to enable me to progress in my journey of becoming a veterinary nurse.
Helen
Hi, I'm Helen. I have loved animals since I was a very young. I had rabbits and cats all through my childhood. I work along side Amy (co-ordinator) as administrator and events organiser for the rescue. I also work as a teaching assistant and veterinary receptionist as well as caring for my rabbit Bambam, three guinea pigs Lady Patch, Dixie and Daisy. I also foster for the rescue and am currently looking aftre Buzz and Woody.
Millie
I’m Millie, I’m a 14 year old school student with hopes of becoming a vet one day. I have many animals at home from guinea pigs all the way to geckos and have grown up riding horses and helping out on my uncles farm. I love helping out around the rescue cleaning, nail clipping and of course having many piggie snuggles. Working alongside the other team members who are all piggie mad is brilliant fun, there’s never a boring day!
Katy
I'm Katy, I'm a retired NHS paramedic which as a result has left me with complex PTSD and two chronicpainconditions. My boys... Pickles, Frazzles, Oreo, Licorice (my guinea pigs) and Nero (my German Shepherd) give me a purpose in life as does the rescue centre. I love guinea pigs as they are quirky, cute and funny... love spending time with my four and the rescue centre ones helping them to find their forever homes to become pampered piggies. I love all the different characters and working alongside the other guinea pig crazy members of the team.
